A paving machine, like an asphalt paver, is a self-propelled structure machine designed to receive, communicate, distribute, profile, and also partly compact paving material. This type of paving machine can take heated paving material (e.g.,asphalt) to a receiving hopper at the front of the paving machine. The heated asphalt material from the hopper is hauled to the rear of the paving machine by conveyors positioned at a bottom of the hopper. The asphalt material is then distributedacross a width of the paving machine by way of two opposing screws or augers. Finally, a screed assembly situated at the rear of the paving machine profiles and compacts the asphalt material to a mat on the paving surface.

Although the paving material mat is typically formed while the paving material is within a desired temperature band, in certain scenarios, different sections of the paving material mat might have significantly different individual temperatures dueto variants in paving material production temperatures, delivery programs, neighboring states, and other factors. Such differences in temperature between sections of this paving material mat might result in corresponding variations in the compactionrequirements for its respective sections, thus increasing the complexity of the paving process. Although most surgeries in the paving process rely heavily upon the training, skill, and experience of paving machine operators, it can be difficult forsuch operators to comprehend such differences in temperature.

A good example system for determining paving material temperatures is clarified in U.S. Pat. No. 8,936,145 (hereinafter referred to as the’145 reference). Specifically, the’145 mention refers to a material conveyor system for improvingtemperature homogeneity in asphalt mixtures so as to supply better compaction. The’145 mention refers to a temperature measurement system which tracks the temperature of the asphalt in primary conveyors of a paving machine or in transverseconveyors of the paving machine. The’145 benchmark doesn’t, however, disclose details associated with estimating the temperature of a resulting paving material mat. What’s more, the a variety of temperature measurement equipment described in the’145 benchmark mayadd considerable additional cost to the paving machine.

Example embodiments of the present disclosure are directed toward overcoming the deficiencies described above.
